Ovarian cancer examinations in North Texas

Doctors at Women’s Specialists of Plano offer screenings for genetic disorders that may show susceptibility to cancer. We provide counseling and therapy, along with BRCA testing and gene analysis for breast, ovarian, uterine and other cancers.

Women who are past menopause have the highest risk of developing ovarian cancer, but there is also a greater risk for those who have not had a baby, are unable to get pregnant or have received hormone replacement therapy. Treatment options include surgery and chemotherapy.

Early detection is key to detecting ovarian cancer. Symptoms often tend to be gastrointestinal rather than gynecologic. They include:

  • Bloating
  • Upset stomach
  • Indigestion
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Pelvic Pain

It’s important to determine if the symptoms are tied to gallstones, gastric reflux or irritable bowel syndrome. If symptoms are present for three weeks or more, you should contact us for an examination.

A pelvic exam and sonogram are usually performed during the initial evaluation. Often a lump is found during the exam or tissue is tested for a biopsy. In some cases, blood tests are given, especially for genetic carriers or women being seen after menopause.
