When a patient comes for an appointment medical history will be taken and symptoms will be recorded. Your doctor may also want to keep a diary of your bladder control issues and note any straining or discomfort, fluid intake, use of drugs, recent surgery and illnesses. A physical exam will also help determine a source of the issue, including blockages of the bowel, weakness of the pelvic floor or pelvic prolapse.
