A colpotomy incision is a surgical procedure used to access the the pelvic structures in order to perform surgery on the fallopian tubes or the ovaries.

Emphasis should be made to safely deflect the ureter.
The incision should be from uterosacral to uterosacral, posteriorly. This is important, especially when the uterus becomes heavy: it makes it easier to do if the anterior portion is still attached.
