Metabolic Syndrome Overview

Metabolic syndrome, also known as syndrome X, is a collection of conditions that occur together to put an individual at a higher risk for heart disease, stroke and diabetes. These conditions include, but are not limited to, obesity (particularly around the waist area), elevated blood pressure, elevated level of blood fat (called triglycerides) and a resistance to insulin.  A person who has been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome usually needs to change their lifestyle in terms of eating a healthier diet and adding in regular exercise in order to delay or reverse the onset of serious diseases.
